Suicide Squad is DC’s Guardians of the Galaxy
Plain and simple, if you liked Guardians of the Galaxy, you will like this movie.
This film is a fast-paced romp through DC’s rogues gallery on the path of villains saving the day. *cough*Deadpool*cough*
Guardians of the Galaxy’s *Guardians spoiler alert* “We are Groot” is brought to mind with the level of acting and feels these actors gave us. Also, the comedic elements are just as present in this film, in case you were worried about sitting through another sobfest like the last 2 movies in this franchise of the DCU.
There are some holes in the writing, but they can easily be explained away. *Suicide Squad spoiler alert* Enchantress wanted metahuman slaves. So, she tested their metal, and then she took their weapons away to ask them to join her.
But now, on to the most important question: Is this Joker cool? I haven’t really seen enough to make a complete decision, but from this movie alone, he comes off as a crazy thug, who happened to make his way to the top of organized crime in Gotham, and probably by chance. Having said that, I love his line delivery. I love the way he makes people feel uncomfortable with his raptor-like snarls and questionable sexuality. I love his skin color not being a bleach white. It almost makes me forgive the gangsta-style costuming.
In the comics, he always seemed to love Harley in the way that you love your new laptop, until it starts to run down and freeze up on you.
What seems to be different in character about the Joker in this film is that he genuinely loves Harley, albeit, in a Secretary sort of way.
I do look forward to more in this Universe, but I am wary about how they may treat my favorite villain. Will he be a crazy thug, an agent of chaos, or both? I’m fine with the last two.
